Do both, cycling is very good for the legs and you will loose weight at the same time.
The treadmill is a bit boring, cycling gets you out in the fresh air and is great exercises.

Riding a bike is a lot more enjoyable then a treadmill or even a stationary bike for that matter. I have one of my bikes on a trainer and it gets boring fast but I stick with it. I can go out and ride my loop that involves a lot of hills and the time goes quickly and I get a much better workout.

Find a good used road or fitness bike and burn a lot of calories. My fitness bike has wider tires that I can take on gravel roads and doesn't have shocks that absorb energy on the road. I can cover 3 miles on either one in less then 15 min. Check on craig's list for a frame size that is 65% of your inseam. Stick with the shop quality bikes and stay away from Walmart and other department store bikes. I lost 45 lbs riding my bike, I always ate good food but just too much of it.
