EITHER WAY (exercise) is “better.” THE KEY IDEA is simply to DO IT. – I applaud you for garnering the gumption to just DO IT (exercise.)
Just remember to KEEP AT THE SAME PACE % schedule each (hour-long) session each time you do “walk.”
Which ever one will keep you motivated to continue walking, jogging, running…keep moving.
The focus should be whether or not you are raising your heart rate enough to burn calories. A simple formula to determine your maximum heart rate is (220 minus your age). The answer to this formula is your heart’s maximum beats per minute. Once you go over this number, you begin to tire yourself out quicker, thus becoming unable to continue moving efficiently enough to burn calories.
I have to agree with the others, the important thing is to keep moving with whatever motivates you.
That being said, walking outside does have an impact on your mental well-being that the treadmill may not. While walking, you tend to focus on the horizon, the environment, and things of interest. This is beneficial in that you are not only doing something for your body, but you are also feeding your mind….relaxing it, taking the focus off yourself. This helps to clear the cobwebs, decrease depression, and increase wellbeing by being a part of the outside world. Then, there is also the benefit of fresh air everytime you inhale.
So, treadmills are great, but when the weather and time allow…I would have to go with the park for an overall workout.
No difference, just go with what feels better. However, a well made treadmill can reduce the impact of pavement by up to 40%
