PuraVidaChica asked:

My 10 month old husky mix loves to go for walks and I tend to walk her 2x a day (both 45 minutes each). However, it has been very stormy lately and I would really like for her to get up on the treadmill but she’s absolutely terrified of it. My hubby and I have tried a few times but poor Chloe hates it.

Any tips?

i doubt u can get in on the treadmill! that would be kinda dangerous? but yea there is a doggy treadmill lol iv seen it before on some show. its like a lil box and you place the dog in there and it moves so it forces to dog to walk. its kinda neat. if you dont like that try making your dog swim.

it she doesn’t like it don’t make her go on it, poor puppy, leave her be until you can walk her again

Treadmills are meant for humans, not animals. She can wait a few days for a walk, just play with her inside and wait until the weather clears up and start walking again. Don’t try putting her on the treadmill if it terrifies her, that’s worse than not walking for a few days.

try getting on with her or let her watch u on it a couple times if she has a favorite toy try tying it to the treadmill

Most dogs don’t use “people treadmills”. She is probably is afraid of the noise, but if you keep trying, who knows, maybe she’ll take to it.

A human treadmill isn’t really safe for a dog to use, they can get caught in the runner and really get hurt. You’re better off just letting that go.

Take the dog to the beast atmosphere in the country with about 5 acres. He will know what to do.

Most of my dogs will go on it willingly after they have seen me on it. If you have a big enough treadmill … try going on a walk on it with her next to you on the leash.

If you don’t want to do that … then walk around the house with her on the leash and “trick” her into walking onto it … keep doing this until she is comfortable with being on the treadmill itself. After you have achieved this then I’d try holding her leash and turning it on, I guess I’ve been lucky because all my dogs have taken to it just fine … after it is on they usually just walk, as they don’t have too much choice and they mostly find it rewarding and fun.

Give her treats and praise as she conquers her fears of the treadmill.

If the treadmill don’t work for you I also use a pool and let them swim with me.

    Good Luck!

I saw Cesar Milan put dogs on treadmill all the time they said its a must to keep big dogs exercised, see his website below see if he has tips on doing this, I have seen several shows on this, seems he puts the treadmill on LOW and then uses a lead in front of the tread to keep the dog from trying to leave from side to side, GOOD LUCK!!!
